Exciting Weekend Planned and More on Online Datine

Things have been fairly quiet for me the past couple of weeks. I did take a trip to Alabama with my friend Brent and met some really awesome folks in Montgomery. That was fun and I look forward to seeing them again the next time I am in Montgomery. Which will be soon since I have to go to some more schooling there sometime next year.

The most exciting thing that is going on and something I have been anticipating for sometime now is I am going to Kansas City this weekend. I am going to meet a very special someone face to face for the first time. I intially met her through the Christian dating service ChristianCafe.com. Since I 'met' her two months ago we have become best of friends and I am very excited to finally get to share a weekend with her. I don't know how you (whoever is reading this) feel about online dating but let me at least say a few things about it before you make a face and dismiss online dating as something that is strange and scary.

If you would have asked me 3 months ago about online dating I would have probably told you something totally different than I am going to tell you now. Online dating doesn't have to be a scary thing. The horror stories you may have heard about not really knowing what the other person looks like or their personalities are just that; horror stories. Any decent online dating service will allow you to post a picture of yourself along with some personal information. Usually you will have the choice on how much information to share and how much not to share. The people who post pictures and share more details generally have an easier time making new friends. Anymore the people that use these services are there for basically the same reason... to meet people. There is no reason for people to lie if they are really looking for some new friends or dating partner. I would say the safest place to meet other people are the Christian dating services and there are lots of them to choose from. One piece of advice I will give, don't be looking for dates in random chat rooms. Try to use some sort of service that gives you a look at who you are talking to before you start the conversation. In chat rooms people can be anyone they want to be and that is where the horror stories of meeting people in real life and finding out they are not who they said they were come from.

Online dating is becoming more and more prevalent in today's society as the younger generation that grew up with the Internet is getting to the age where they are ready to find that special someone. There are several different groups in the older generation that are now catching on to the idea. People who don't feel they have time to go looking find it easy to get online and make a profile. People who have had no luck using conventional methods of dating think online dating provides a way to meet more people faster. Older divorced people, recent college grads and people in the military are also catching on in large numbers for various different reasons.

There are many positive aspects of using online dating services. One positive aspect is being able to look through hundreds of profiles in a short period of time and pick and choose who you want to contact. One can get a pretty good idea wether or not the profile you are looking at is someone you could be friends with pretty quickly. It does take honesty on both parts though and I believe that is one reason I was so lucky to meet Jennifer. We were both very honest in our profiles and that helped alot when we first started to communicate through email.

I never thought I would meet someone using online dating services. I was really hoping to just make a few friends to chat with in my down time while I was here at BCOT. In the back of my mind I was hoping to meet someone special. But I never thought I would meet someone like Jen. I found a whole lot more than I ever thought possible using online dating services... I have found a lifelong friend. For more information on online dating from a more definitive source please click here to view some articles from the Focus on the Family website.
