War Protestors
again...

A post I thought I would share from GI Party...

I got off my train in Rosslyn because I had to use the bathroom and the train was moving quite slowly. When I was getting back on the train, there were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets on the evils of America. I politely declined to take one. An elderly woman was behind me getting off the escalator and a young (20ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, she politely declined. The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice said, "Ma'am, don't you care about the children of Iraq?"

The old woman looked up at her and said, "Honey, my first husband died in France during World War II so you could have the right to stand here and bad mouth your country. And if you touch me again, I'll stick this umbrella up your a$$ and open it."

I'm glad to report that loud applause broke out among the onlookers and the young protester was at a total loss for words.

I love living in a free country.

LT Smash

Anybody that is keeping up with what is going on in Iraq (which I assume is most everybody) should read this blog. LT Smash is in Iraq but still manages to make a post to his blog every now and then. Todays was especially interesting. Check it out.

Love

You can't make someone love you, all you can do is be someone who can be loved, the rest is up to the person to realize your worth. We spend to much time looking for the right person to love or finding fault with those we already love, when instead we should be perfecting the love we give.

I would like to thank jen for pointing me in the write direction to get a new commentting script on my site! Thanks Jen!! I now use enetation and it is pretty cool. If you have left comments the past couple days I probably didn't see them cause the other script I was using wasn't showing that people had left comments...

War Protestors

I haven't yet said anything about war protestors because I believe it is part of the beauty of this country for them to be able to express there opinions, hold protests, and basically bash our government all they want. It is that kind of freedom that our soldiers are fighting for daily. But then I read stuff like this post from another blog and it just made me realize how uneducated some people are. Protest all you want but personal attacks on regular citizens are just ridiculous.

Thoughts on Joy

This has been a good week for the most part... God is really teaching me to be joyful in the moment of now. There is really never going to be a better time to be happy and take joy than right now. So many times in my life I have looked forward to the future saying to myself that when I reach a certain point everthing will be better and I will be able to take joy in life and really get started living my life for Jesus. The real question is, why not today? Paul wrote in his final remarks of his first letter to the Thessalonians that we should, "Be joyful always; pray continually and give thanks in all circumstance, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thes 5:16-18) It can be difficult sometimes to find places in the Bible where it just comes right out and says what God's will is. It is clear from this that we should seek joy on a daily basis. For more on joy read James chapter one.

Brookville Hotel

My good friend Kyle and his wife, and Jeremiah, my roommate, all went to the Brookville Hotel to eat tonight. It was about a 45 minute drive but it was well worth it. It was the first time I have ever eaten there and I thought I was going to pop when I left. All they serve is fried chicken and several sides but it is AWESOME! Anybody who lives within an hour of Abilene, KS and has never eaten there needs to do so! I am leaving in 10 weeks for England and I have lived in Kansas all my life and I just now found the most wonderful place to eat. I will surely eat there again a couple times before I leave for England. If you are ever driving by Abilene on Interstate 70 and it is anywhere near dinner go ahead and stop... you won't regret it!!

I found this on a blog I was reading today...
***
UPI

A group of American anti-war demonstrators who came to Iraq with Japanese human shield volunteers made it across the border today with 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi government minders present. Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler. He and his sons are sick sadists. Their tales of slow torture and killing made me ill, such as people put in a huge shredder for plastic products, feet first so they could hear their screams as bodies got chewed up from foot to head."

wow... this speaks for itself

thoughts on war

Below is an email I recieved from my brothers wife and sister in Christ. Below is her dads thoughts on the situation in Iraq. Very insiteful. I hope to be as wise as this man some day.
***

I truly believe the evil one is stepping up his activity which is manifested in death, destruction, and hatred--all are, it seems, on the increase around the world. I support our President who has made difficult decisions with amazing resolve to pursue what's right because it's right, not because it is politically expedient. I'm impressed by his humility before the American people and before God. Because he is the most powerful man in the world, President Bush's stand for the right and good inevitably places him face-to-face with the "world-forces of this darkness." I seriously doubt the confrontation with Iraq will be the end of it. Because the United Nations is a human institution and represents many countries that serve the purposes of the evil one, it will never support the critical resolutions that stand for righteousness in the eyes of our good, loving, holy Creator God. President Bush has taken a bold step to act on his conscience rather than succumb to the pressures of political rhetoric. The Spirit of God is present among our troops and I'm not surprised to see him moving in the hearts of individual soldiers. I pray the Spirit will go with our troops as they enter Iraq and use our military personnel in ways that will cause many Iraqi people to know the one true God who loves them and is pursuing them so that they might be blessed by His immeasurable goodness and grace. Is it possible that after the war God would sweep across Iraq and add many souls to His kingdom? I wonder how many Muslims would eagerly receive the gospel of Christ if the threat of death were not hanging over their heads? Do we have missionaries ready to enter this window of opportunity?

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world-forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." Eph. 6:12

Good News

A good news from report from inside Iraq. A man from my hometown (I say 'man' knowing full well he has probably just recently turned 20 and yet knowing he is a marine fighting for this country) has told his mother that 8 soldiers in his unit were baptized before the fighting broke out last week. Praise God!! The Lord is working even now. God, not world leaders, is ultimately in charge of His world!

Iraq

I have been posting some comments on Dave's Blog-o-Rama and I just wanted to post those comments here cause they will further help you understand how I feel about Iraq.
The following is from a comment board discussion on Daves site. The first comment is refering to this

*******
Chad,
Thanks for weighing in. To respond to your statement that the Bible doesn't address turning the other cheek a second time if an enemy does not desist and renews the attack, I am reminded of Mathew 18:21-22, which states:

21 Then Peter approaching asked him, "Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?"

22 Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.

Posted by Vickie at 14.03.03 13:58

Vickie,
Thank you for pointing this out. Peter asked Jesus about a brother sinning against him personnally. I am going to forgive anyone who sins against me... no matter how many times that person sins against me. I, however, am not going to allow anyone to take advantage of me. There is a difference between being passive and extending forgiveness. If someone breaks into my house and trys to kill me I am going to defend myself.

When I have defended myself successfully I will forgive the person who attacked me but he will probably still go to jail for attempted murder because of the laws of this country and the institution of government.

1 Peter 2:13-14
Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.

Government is one of three divine institutions set up by God. The other two being the Church and the Home. Romans 13 gives us a good picture of authority established by good to deal with evil.

Romans 13:4
Everyone must submit himself to the governign authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.
For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. [Government] is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

I see Saddam Hussein as a wrongdoer. I am going to forgive him for building weapons of mass destruction, persecuting Christians and non-christians in his own country, being a ruthless ruler who cares nothing for the well-being of his people but only cares for the number of new palaces he can build over the course of a decade while his people starve. Please read the rest of my thoughts on this subject in my blog:
My thoughts on Iraq

I believe that for me personally there is no need for me to go out and pick fights with people that I know are doing wrong. If they are breaking the law it is likely the government(which includes police, military, and lawmakers) will take care of them. If they have wronged me personally and not broken any laws I will turn my cheek a thousand times.

I am going home for spring break today and leaving for Colorado on Monday to go skiing. You guessed it. I will not be posting to my blog for just a bit more than a week. I am guessing we will probably be at war by the time I get back from skiing. This is not my hope... just my guess. I am hoping that we can convince Saddam Hussein to step down. He needs to step down so that the persecution of his people will come to an end. Of course as soon as we are done dealing with Iraq we will have to deal with a bigger threat... N. Korea. So... have a great weekend everyone (if anyone is reading this...) and a good next week. I'll be on the slopes of Copper Mountain next week and blogging will be the furthest thing from my mind...
Happy Blogging!!

May a Christian Serve in the Military??

I think so...
here is why...

Verse of the Day

Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to
gooodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to
self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and
to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness,
love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing
measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and
unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
--2 Peter 1:5-8
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
Wow! What a message. God wants us to be productive in our
lives. He wants us to have more than just head knowledge. He
wants us to put it to work in our lives and be effective and
productive with it. But, I've got to put out some effort and
try to grow in these qualities. Peter is saying, "Okay folks,
God wants you to get after it and make a difference through
your life!" I'm ready! Let's begin today.

MY PRAYER...
Holy God, I am going to put out the effort to grow in your
grace. Please bless my efforts and receive them as my
heartfelt appreciation for loving me when I was unlovable and
redeeming me when I was lost. I want to be productive to your
glory in my life with Jesus, through whom I pray. Amen.

my thoughts on Iraq...

Some of you might be wondering what a Christian in the Military thinks of all that is going on in the world these days... well I can give you my view and you can go from there. I think George W. Bush is a good president. I believe Bush is a Christian man with strong convictions. Knowing this it is easier for me to follow the decisions he makes concerning world affairs specifically Iraq. Paul writes in Romans 13 that, "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God" and later in that chapter Paul writes that, "[Government] is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." I see Saddam Hussein as a wrongdoer. The persecutions of his own people and the Christians in that country has to stop. Some of you might be thinking that since all authority is established by God who are we to go take it away from Hussein. Well, I think what Paul says about bringing punishment to the wrongdoer clears that up. It scares me to think that a man like that may have chemical warfare weapons that he would not hesitate to use if he is not disarmed. If the rest of the world is not going to step up and do the job that the UN was set up to do... then by all means the US and Britain should go at it alone. I thank God that Britain is on our side in this. I don't know about Tony Blair and his beliefs but I am glad that he sees the need for the Iraqi disarmament. I would love to hear what others think on this topic so leave some comments by clicking the shout out link below if you feel so inclined.

blogging

This blogger stuff is pretty fun... at least I think so. I don't really know if anyone ever looks at my blog cause no one ever leaves comments but it doesn't really matter... I just like the thought of having an online journal that is easy to maintain. I wanted to do this way back during my freshman year in college but there wasn't really any good way to do it back then. I was lookin' for them in '98 and early '99 and it was a little after that some weblogs started showing up according to a weblog history I found. Myrna James really needed one for the site I made for her. I built that site in late '97 and early '98.

Man... the web has come a long way since then. That page I made for her is quite horrible as I look at it today. Of course that was the first website I ever built. I had no clue what web design was. I imagine I will look back on this site in the not so distant future and think it is not all that whoopy... in fact I know it is not all that good now... but it suits my purpose. So... if you are reading this... give me a shout out or sign my guestbook... just so I feel better...

Spring break is in 4 days!! My teachers were kind enough to keep this week free from to many tests and due projects so I don't have much school work to do this week... someone suggested to me that I should use this time to get ahead. Not a bad idea... but it would be more likely that I am going to use this time to get caught up. It is supposed to warm up by the end of this week... that will be nice.
We are leaving for Copper Mountain a week from today! I am pumped! This is going to be the cheapest ski trip I have ever been on. Twenty dollar lift tickets, i've got my own skis, cheap lodging... i think it is going to be 120 bucks for 3 days of skiing and 4 nights at the condo. Can't beat that really.

I took some kids to KC today for AWANA Olympics... really didn't feel like going but ended up having fun with the kids... big surprise! I love kids!! Even the one that wouldn't shut up. Got back and got cleaned up and Jeremiah and I had a movie night at our place... we watched "The Ring." It was pretty good... kinda gruesome... I didn't think it was as scary as "Event Horizon." That movie freaked me out.
Anyway... the last person left about 20 minutes ago and I am on my way to bed...

Women in the Military

I have been reading some blogs of people that have loved ones in the military or people in the military... I came across this post and wanted to share it here.

Name: Brittanua

Hometown: Cedar City

I am currently expecting my second child on May 24. My unit just got the call that we are on standby for deployment. I am in an aviation unit, and we deal in Apache helicopters, and Blackhawks. I have never been so terrified in my life to stand up for what I believe in. I want so badly to defend my country. But how do I leave behind a two-year-old, and a newborn??? And feel good about myself? I will come home from this war and my newborn will be a year old, and will not know who his mother is. How do you decide between your children and your country?

I am not going to comment about women in the military... but it saddens my heart to know this woman has to leave her children to defend this great nation. I wish she didn't have to go but she volunteered. Everyone in the military volunteered. Some are patriots... some just needed a job... some were trouble makers... some needed a way to pay for college... but we all volunteered. We volunteered to defend a nation that allows its citizens to have free speech and protest this war. We volunteered to defend a citizens right to burn the flag, turn there backs, and spit on anything that resembles the military we joined. I joined the military because I am a patriot... anyone who knows me knows I have always been... I joined the military to be leader... I joined the military to serve... I joined the military so that I could give up my freedom so that others might be free.

If you want to read some other blogs of military personel and there family's click here. A new window will open.

Verse of the Day

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all you mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

You know what i am learning... (i got that from James White)... I am learning that I need to learn to say 'No.' People ask me to help with stuff alot because I am a reliable person. But what good am I to anybody when I have said yes to so many people I can't do any task with my heart and soul. So then I end up slacking off in the stuff I shouldn't slack off in like studying the Word and studying for school... I am just like my Mother. Which is not nessarcarily a bad thing but I need to find a balance between being involved and being in over my head. This is my last semester in college... I am only taking 10 hours and I think I am busier this semester than I have been in some previous. I seem to be spending so much time doing things that I am running out of the good times where I do nothing but sit around and talk to friends for hours or go over to somebody's house real random like just to hang out... there are people that I really do need to hang out with this semester because if I don't I probably never will... so what do I do... I should probably build the ones I know will last... then there are guys like Matt Altwegg whom I would love to hang out with but whenever I have free time to hang out with people this semester I am hanging out with Kyle or Jeremiah... cause there really hasn't been that much time to hang out with people... seems as though there is always something going on.
I could sit here and say that things will change when i go on active duty but they won't... It is the fact that I get things done that will give me good recomendation and evaluations. I will volunteer for things soon after I get on active duty that will keep me busy on the weekends and weeknights too probably... One thing I can say for certain though... when God decides it is my time to raise a family... that will be my number one job. Nothing will come before it unless i am required by law to do so... anyway... there is my rant and rave for the day
