I'm an Uncle!

I am now an Uncle! You are looking at the newest member of my family. His name is Derek Alexander. He weighed 8 lbs 7 oz at birth and was 20 and 3/4 inches long. He was born Monday at 4:44 CST. Mom and Dad are now home from the Hospital and napping... I am really looking forward to seeing Derek in May when I go home for my wedding! What a cutie!!

Three Peaks Update

So I've had a busy week but I have a 3 day weekend this weekend which is nice. That is one nice thing about being in USAFE... they give you family days once in awhile. Anyway... the hike was great! Check out the pictures! Unfortunately I didn't make it the entire 3 peaks. I got some pretty bad blisters on my feet and had to stop about 23 miles or so into it. It was very hard but I am sure I will make it the next time I try. I really wasn't even sore the next day... my feet hurt but that was about it. Find out more about the 3 peaks challenge in Yorkshire here.

Thirty Mile Hike

Yes... that's right! I am doing a 30 mile hike this weekend with the Boy Scouts from base! Should be fun and at the same time tough... The goal: complete 30 miles in under 12 hours; shouldn't be to hard to do. I think the most I have done is about 16 miles in one hike... but that was going to the top of a 14,000 foot peak and back. This 30 miles will top 3 peaks in Northern Yorkshire but we are talking English Countryside peaks... something similar to peaks in Missouri I imagine. I'll let you know Sunday or Monday upon my return.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I have always been a bit baffled by St. Patrick's Day. Everybody be sure to wear green so you don't get pinched! What? That makes no more sense to me now than it did when I was a child. In the US and other parts of the world it has become yet another reason to get stupid drunk at some bar or pub and stumble home. What are we supposed to be celebrating?
St. Patrick was called by the Lord and sent to Ireland. He taught that the Trinity is ever with us to sustain us, even when all is misery. He knew firsthand. He taught that God loves us, despite the buffetings of the world.
Read more about it here.

This is Amazing

When we read stories like this we must remember that the Lord works in mysterious ways.

Ashley Smith had amazing courage through this ordeal. When I read the transcript of her telling what happened it is evidant that the Lord used this tragic event for the glory of His Kingdom.

Isaiah 55:8-9
8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. 9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

2012 Olympics

Five cities have made the short list of cities that are being considered for the 2012 Olympics. Paris, New York, Moscow, London and Madrid are the finalists. I've been to two of these cities, London and Paris. I personally would like to see the games go to New York but would be pleased to see them go to any one of the these cities except London. Don't get me wrong, London is a great city with lots to see and do, and a great history of Olympic participation; however, the main reason I don't want the games to go to London is because of the Pound.

While I was at the Olympics in Athens I could buy a half liter bottle of water for about 30 pence (which is just under 60 cents) at just about every single street vendor I stopped at. Currently if I were in London and wanted to buy a half liter bottle of water from a street vendor it would cost anywhere from 75 pence to 1 pound(somewehre between $1.50 and $2.00). That is the main reason I don't want to see London get the Olypics... the city of London and the British Government will gouge the wallets of the 3 million people that show up. Inside the venues, yes, water was more expensive, but not much. You see it was hot in Athens and I think they would rather sell cheap water than have people dieing of heat stroke. I know, I know... New York would raise prices too... but still... with the exchange rates the way they are it would REALLY suck if the games were in London and not just for Americans. At least it would suck for the fans that were there, and I do plan on going, where ever it might be.

Power to Change

This is kind of old news but I wanted to post about it anyway. Brian Welch, lead guitarist in the band Korn, has accepted Christ into his life. He decided to leave the band about a month ago and last week he was baptised. Read more about it here. If you've never heard Korn's music it can be very disturbing if you can understand the lyrics. Here's a little sample from one of there songs. Since I consider this to be a G rated website... the lyrics have been edited for content. (The swear words have been bleeped)
Deep Inside, It can't hide!
Feeling so lost and betrayed
why does this happen to me everytime
Stuck in this place, where I can't escape
Screaming and clawing from deep inside

Why won't it fade
Outside I had to lie; "I'm ok",
I hope someday, I'll stop getting pain
I guess this is a lie, I have made

I can't stand all this #!@&!%$ Pain
Please god just go away
Please god just make the pain...
This sample is pretty tame compared to most of there lyrics.

I think Welch accepting Christ then having the conviction to do something about it really shows the Power of God to change peoples hearts and in turn change their minds to focus on Christ.

O'Reilly and SpongeBob

So until now Fox was the only major news network to not bash Dobson. He didn't directly talk about Dobson, but he didn't have too. O'Reilly is supposed to be the "no spin" zone but he failed Monday in his talking point memo. He said, "equally dumb was labeling SpongeBob a gay guy". I can assure you nothing of the sort was ever done. The rumor of Dobson labeling Spongebob gay was a "spin" or a "twist" blown way out of proportion by the liberal media in this country. I lost a little respect for O'Reilly today... sorry Bill, contrary to what you believe, you are not always right. Please refer to my previous post about this matter for a more in-depth look into what actually happened.

Talk about King Size....

I bet this guy was King of the Sea.
